Mobile Phones for the Family (part 1)

For many years now, network operators have had plans in place which have enabled businesses to share their inclusive minutes across the number of handsets on their account. This meant that if any of their employees were to overuse their mobile phones , others were going to be away or office based and therefore reduced the need to have separate accounts that weren’t being used.

Since this has been something that the networks have been promoting for many years now, it’s hard to see why companies such as T-Mobile, Vodafone and Orange have left it until recently to hit on the idea of offering this type of system to the general public; i.e. the families.

It’s obvious that this type of system is going to appeal to families too. As children start to get their first mobile phone at a younger age, its prime use is to ‘stay in touch’. Should an emergency arise, it comforts parents to know that they are on the end of the phone if they are needed.

Unfortunately whilst the sentiment is there, many children are either running up bills or using all their credit up on sending text messages to their friends, leaving this idea useless. Orange was one of the first networks to get around this problem by letting people make one last phone call home if and when they need to in an emergency, if they have no credit.

Many mobile networks have introduced mobile phone deals to appeal to families. Each one is very different in the way it works and may not suit them all. Depending on how much control account holders want, each network gives customers the ability to call another handset on the account free for an unlimited period – preventing any worry from developing for parents.
