One of the questions I see frequently asked on online discussion forums is, “Can You Really Make Money from Blogging?” People want to know if there’s some way to profit from the time they spend maintaining their web logs or personal online journals.

My answer is an emphatic “YES,” because I do it… everyday!

Today I’ll share with you how I do it.

Let me begin by saying that I don’t make thousands per month from MOST of my blogs. However, I do have many making hundreds. Since I don’t put in a lot of time maintaining them, and I enjoy blogging, I consider the money a bonus. I blog while sitting in my yard with my laptop (on a wireless connection)… watching the clouds roll by.

Another bonus I get from blogging is that it helps my regular websites that are set up as my “money machines.”

The search engines visit my blogs more often than they visit my regular sites, and they follow the links from my blogs pointing to other sites. Some of these links point to my sites, and some point to sites of partners. This does help the search engine rankings of these sites MASSIVELY.

How Do I Monetize My Blogs?

I monetize my blogs by creating blogs on topics people are searching for… and that they are spending money on. I know which niches are hot to an extent based upon what my research proves pay-per-click advertisers are willing to spend their advertising dollars on.

I run Google AdSense ads on my blogs. You can visit www.bloggers-guide-to-profit.com  I simply insert these ads in my menu bar and other strategic places on the webpage. I also experiment with other paid advertising on my blogs.

I sell affiliate products from my blogs. I simply find affiliate products at places like PayDotCom.com and Commission Junction. I incorporate these into my blogs. I do things like product reviews, how-to articles, etc. You can also locate suitable affiliate products by typing your target keywords + “affiliate program” at any major search engine. This should point out numerous websites with suitable affiliate programs to you.

How Do I Setup/Host My Blogs?

I have blog hosted on some of my own domains using Moveable Type. This is just one of many great pieces of blogging software. You have other choices… my programmer recommended this one to me.

I also have blogs hosted for free on Blogger.com. I have them on Blogger.com because they are incredibly easy to set up and maintain. A secondary reason I have them on Blogger.com is that Google OWNS Blogger.com and they index webpages hosted on their servers OFTEN and FAST!

The secret to getting Google and Yahoo! to visit your blogs often is a technique called “blogging and pinging.” It’s a method of notifying all of the major search engines, and blog directories, each time that you update your blog. The search engines come to take a look and they follow links from your blog to spider other blogs/sites. It’s very powerful.

Examples of Profitable Blogs?

I know, you want to see examples of profitable blogs

To show you how simple it can be I’ll show you just ONE. It s less than 2 months old

The problem is that as soon as I show a site to anyone as an example, it’s instantly ripped off. So, I’m going to “sacrifice” one making me about $60 per day from affiliate product sales and about $20 per day in AdSense revenue. That site is at:

The above site currently ranks Number 6 on Yahoo for the term “cure nail fungus.” It’s a small niche but one that makes me $2400 per month… just from that one blog.

If you searched on the same term at Google, this site is not very highly ranked. However, THIS page is Num ber4:

That happens to be one of my pages too I won’t tell you what ALL I’m up to on that page… that’s another article. The technique involves using your own domains to promote affiliate products rather than advertising someone else’s domain… so it improves your link popularity.

I’m not going to show more of my blogs because that just invites competition. Instead, I’m going to answer another question you have to be wondering…

“How do I find time to maintain all of these blogs, even if they are profitable?”

Well, first of all, I don’t really need a lot like the “sacrificial lamb” that I showed you above to keep me satisfied.

I do have a number of secret weapons though. One is called Auto logger. You can check it out at:

What Auto logger does is allow me to queue up a number of posts for my various blogs in advance. It lets you queue up “articles” which can really be anything you want. Then you tell the software at what frequency to make a post.

My Auto logger account allows me to automatically post to an UNLIMITED number of blogs.

WARNING: A program like Auto logger can get you in trouble if you misuse it! If you use it to spam or abuse the search engines, it’s just going to get you banned. If you use it to abuse the blog hosts, they’re just going to delete your blogs.

Here’s how I use Auto logger:

I have sites where I discuss Internet marketing… as just one example. On these sites I share many of my articles and tidbits. I simply queue up these articles/tidbits to post at a given frequency. This frequency can be a set number of hours, days, weeks, or months. So theoretically, I can set up a blog, pre-schedule 50 posts, and not touch it in months, while it is automatically posted to for the next 50 intervals.

Auto logger even lets you set it to start rotating through the posts again when they run out, if you want to. I personally wouldn’t do this since you’d just be posting duplicate content.

Auto logger allows you to insert RSS feeds right into your blog posts. So in addition to posting articles you can also auto-update by adding new RSS feeds at a set interval. Since I HATE sending my traffic to other sites (without reciprocation), these RSS feeds generally pull from MY sites. That way, my traffic is only sent to my other sites.

If you don’t even feel like queuing up a lot of posts, you can go to a site like Elance.com and hire someone else to do it for you… or just hired your kids to do it for you. It can be as easy as you want to make it.

OK, I’ve just proven to you that you can make money off of blogs. In-fact, you can make more money than many people make off of their REGULAR websites. It just takes a little thinking outside the box!

It also takes not being too greedy. You can log on www.blog-link-generator.com What I just showed you works for me because I’m not doing anything that’s likely to get me banned from the search engines, Google AdSense, Blogger.com, or any affiliate program. It’s only when you get carried away, and do things that harm the search engines that you “shoot yourself in the foot.”

Set up blogs providing useful content. Make regular posts to these blogs but not in a manner that seems unnatural. By that, I mean don’t auto-post twenty times in an hour, or post every hour for a month! No human can possible post to a blog at these rates for long, so the search engines detect something is “wrong.” They don’t generally prohibit you from using tools to make your job easier… just don’t get carried away!

These techniques not only benefit the long term goal of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) but at the same can be a good source of direct traffic. SEO is the process of getting ranked high in search engine results (SERPS) for a respective KW. To land on the first pages in search engine results is the Internet Marketer’s dream.

Google Webmaster Tools says that in order to gain SERPS you should have high quality sites linking to yours, which is termed a backlink. So, the most effective way to climb the ranks is to have the most backlinks leading to your site. And some of the backlinks discussed here are also great sources of direct traffic which can lead to sale conversions.

The two most popular types of backlinks are reciprocal and one-way. A reciprocal link is where you exchange links with another site. A one-way link is where you get a link to your site from another site without having to place a link back.

One-way links hold the most juice with search engines. But, a diverse link building campaign is best. Just get lots of different links everyday! There are several ways to build links and all of them should be utilized to optimize your sites for SEO and increasing web site traffic.

1. Relevant/Reciprocal Link Exchange – This is where you exchange links with sites that are relevant to yours. Now there are many webmasters who exchange links with whatever site comes along, but think about this. If you have a website about computers, how helpful is it for your visitors to see a link to a weight loss site? This is just common sense, think about your visitors and build links for them and not for ranks and your site will be rewarded.

Reciprocal link placement on your site can be done in several ways. There is the links/partners page, where links are placed one after the other. But, this technique is not the best option. These days search engines place less value on links pages and in reality, how good is a links page for your site and its visitors?

A better option is to place your links and get the reciprocal site to place links within the content on your site, as a hyperlink (with relevant KW) this looks far better on the site, provides a natural flow of links and gets more link juice with the all mighty Google.

Also home page links and footer links (sitewides) are better options that link pages and this is something that can entice higher page rank sites to want to trade with you when your site rank is lower than theirs. Best Strategy: The key to link building on your sites is to make the link look like a side effect and not the end goal!

2. Directory Listing Links. Another way to get backlinks is by placing a listing of your sites in Internet Directories. These links vary depending on the directory. Sometimes directories require reciprocals, and sometimes they are one-ways. Of course, you want to get the one-ways as much as possible. But overall when your site is new get links in as many good directories as you can, even if, they have a lower page rank.

Some of the more popular higher ranking directories, like Dmoz, have a long wait so it is important to submit to the less popular directories to get the links quicker. Also directory listings are in in of themselves a good source of web site traffic since many people use these directories when searching the net.

4. Links in Relevant Forums/Discussion Groups. A great way to get a backlink and also get relevant targeted traffic is joining forums that are relevant to your sites theme and those that allow a backlink in the signature.

The key to this technique is having a genuine interest and knowledge within the theme. Don’t join a forum just to get sales, with this attitude your posts will quickly translate to SPAM and you will get booted faster than you can say boo. Instead, add helpful and meaningful posts, answer other members questions in these forums, participate in a genuine manner and not only will you get a powerful backlink, it will also increase your web site traffic. Plus, highly targeted and relevant traffic that will likely convert into sales since the visitors to those forums have a deep interest in the respective theme.

5. One-way links from Comments on Blogs. A great way to get links to your sites is by leaving comments on blogs relevant to your sites theme. Some blogs use a “no-follow” command for links which is a code attribute value used to instruct some search engines that the link should not influence the link target’s ranking in the search engine’s index. But if you read high traffic blogs that are of interest to you this often becomes a source of traffic to your site from the other readers of those blogs.

Also there are many blogs that offer “do-follow” links, a simple search for those can definitely optimize your SEO efforts and bring an increase in web site traffic.

6. Link Bait. Another great way to build quality one way backlinks is to use a link bait on your site. This is the method of choice to get get higher page rank sites to link to lower page rank sites. Link Bait is any content or feature within a website that somehow baits viewers to place links to it from other websites. These link baits could be, information hooks, news hooks, humor hooks, tools hooks like a widget or some helpful tool that other sites can use.

7. Write a Press Release. Make sure to educate yourself on how to write a press release, many confuse these with sales ads and that is not what they are. For a complete guide to press releases, including the how-to’s you can visit PRWeb.

8. Social/Bookmark Site Links: The social revolution is hot on the web. Social and bookmark sites are growing in huge numbers and have tons of traffic and members. Join sites, like Facebook, Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon, Delicious, Furl It, just to name a few. Also you can save tons of time with Social Marker where you can add to over 50 of these sites at once from one browser window. Submit your site content to appropriate categories and get a backlink. Plus, these sites can be a great source of direct traffic from readers interested your content.

The key to some of these sites, like Facebook, is the word “social” which means that for optimal traffic you need to participate, make friends, take interest in what others are doing, join relevant groups etc.

9. Create a Squidoo Lens. A Squidoo lens about your site is a great way to advertise your site, get a backlink and traffic. The key to Squidoo is joining lots of Squidoo groups and once again participating with other lensemasters, commenting on their lenses and link to relevant lenses by creating lensrolls and they will do the same for you, this creates lots of cross traffic.

10. Article Marketing. Last but never least, Article Marketing is the BEST way to get quality one way backlinks and at the same time get direct targeted traffic to your sites. There are many benefits to this method, including getting relevant and targeted traffic which converts well into sales if you follow the method of “relevancy” with KW anchor text techniques.

Search engines don?t accept any type of link. It has to be from a relevant and quality company. That means you don?t want to participate in link farming. If a search engine suspects your links to be lacking, they?ll actually penalize you. Like farming or link exchanging is essentially the process of exchanging reciprocal links with website in order to increase your search engine ranking. A link farm is a webpage that is nothing more than a page of links to other sites. Stay away from link farms. When you generate a link from another site, it has to be relevant and come from a real website.

5. What is duplicate content?

When you have more than one web page on your website that contains essentially the same content then you have what?s called duplicate content. Search engines will penalize you for this. You can avoid this easily enough by not publishing the same content in a ton of different locations. If you need help rewriting your content, there are tools online that can help you make it 30%, 40%, even 60% different.

6. How do I find the right keywords?

A good place to start would be to make a list of words that you think best describe your products. Customers will use these to find your website. You can also research the supply and demand for those keywords to see how popular they are. Supply means how many other websites are using those same keywords, and demand is how many customers are looking for those keywords. The goal is to find keywords with high demand and relatively low supply. There are many effective and useful keyword tools to help you find this information, and also to generate keyword ideas.

7. How do I optimize my web pages?

Put your keywords in the headings, subheadings, domain name, and title of your website. Search engines will look there first. They also look in the content of your web page and generally focus on the first paragraph. Try to get a domain name with your primary keyword included. When you include your keyword in your URL, it tells the search engine spiders immediately what your site is about.

A title tag is the line of text that appears on search engine results pages that acts as a link to your site. Put your keyword in the title tag, as it is a crucial element that describes to customers what your page is about. Keeping your title tag brief, descriptive and up to date will help increase the relevance of your site by search engine standards, as well as give your potential visitors a good idea of what they can expect from your website.

As I’ve said in previous posts, the importance of domaining forums in the domain industry are vital and serve as a great resource for beginners and professional domainers alike. Whether you are looking for some honest appraisal opinions or asking questions that only another domainer would know the answer to, the domain forums are there to assist. 24 hours a day, 365 days a week, this constant stream of domain information has shaped many beginner domainers into today’s greatest professional domainers. If you’re not a member of a domain forum you should greatly consider joining one today.

Are you a domainer or a domain developer?

Are you buying domains for quick profit sales? Are you buying domains for the long-term traffic revenue? Are you buying domains to develop and birth new traffic? Whether you choose to do one or all three, you must come to terms and clarify a solid game plan when it comes to your domain investments. It’s reasonably okay to have a few domains being developed but your overall strategy needs to take shape and be narrowed down to a specific objective. He agreed and the next day he sent me a list of about 1000 of his best domains that he was willing to sell. To my surprise over 90% of them were, in my humble opinion, not worth much more than the reg fee. I contacted him back and explained that I was only to find about 75-100 names that could possibly be decent sales. He was stunned. He declined and stated that my appraisal was not correct and thanked me for my time. 3 days laters, I received an email from the exact same guy asking for assistance in selling the 75-100 domain names I previously found in his list. Seems that during those 3 days, he spoke to a few other domainers and received the same appraisal and evaluation of his so called “best” domains. This guy thought since his domains contained popular words like gamble, casino, sex and technology that it automatically made his domains super valuable. What he didn’t consider was the multiple hyphens and terrible combinations of typos and keywords. Don’t be the domainer with a huge list of terrible domains just to brag about how large your portfolio is. Trim your “extra” domains and streamline by selling or trading and use the profit for investing in quality names that are earmarked for immediate revenue or immediate development. Be proud of the overall quality of your portfolio and not just the number of domains it contains.

Know your rep

I amazed on how many people I encounter that in the domain industry that have no idea who their representatives are for such companies as Sedo, Moniker, Go Daddy and other big domain powerhouses. The representatives of such companies exist to assist their members who utilize their services and are hands-down the quickest and easiest way to get something resolved if you feel a mistake has been made. If you have domains either parked or offered for sale with a domain company, I highly suggest sending a quick email to find out who your representative is and do you best to maintain a professional and courteous relationship with them. It’s easier to ask assistance from someone whom you know and knows you than it is to ask a complete stranger. Stay clear of Trademark Infringements

This should be a no-brainer. Time and time again I see domainers struggle with the headaches caused by trademark infringements and bad faith domain registrations. Not only do most of the trademark claims filed at the WIPO result in the domain being transferred to the appropriate party, but it also indicates that your choice in domains is questionable and therefore proving that you are still purchasing non-quality domain names. Domains that infringe on trademarks are not quality. Ask any lawyer. Save your registration fee and steer clear of legal woes.

Auto-renew

Now that your portfolio is streamlined and contains only select domain names, you definitely don’t want to lose or let any of them drop and take a chance of someone else buying you lovely internet real estate. Do yourself a favor and set your domains for auto-renew at your domain register where purchased. It’s a terrible feeling to have someone else scoop up one of your prize domains just because you didn’t or couldn’t find the time to renew the registration. Limit the hand regs

Hand regs or hand registrations are domains that are purchased from a publicly available source at a regular registration fee and are either brand new (never been purchased) or have expired and no longer owned by the previous owner. Go Daddy is a domain registrar that is popular with domainers and consistently used for hand regs. The possibility of stumbling along a unregistered domain is always there and the opportunity for someone to register a new domain name that never existed and create value to it is also conceivable, but in essence, most domain names that are hand regged are simply non-researched, impulse purchases that pad a domain portfolio with non-value names. Distinguish yourself as a profitable domainer and limit the amount of hand regs you add to your portfolio. One good way is to wait 24 hours before registering a hand reg domain and then re-evaluating before buying. You may lose a registration every so often but in the long run you will save on unnecessary registration fees and useless domain name ownership.

Stay current with news and sales

To be successful is to be informed. The pulse of the domain industry is constantly evolving and therefore it is beneficial to a domainer to know exactly what is the next potential opportunity or trend being created within our industry. If you buy domain names, you are an investor. If you are an investor, you need to stay current with the news of your investments and other people’s investments. You can do this by monitoring the recent domain sales and news offered by many websites that are specifically geared towards todays domainers. One of my favorite websites is Ron Jackson’s DNJournal. You can find great articles, news and the popular Year To Date domain sales. You need to know what domains are selling, which domains are being bought and how much they are being bought for. Invest time in your investments and reap the rewards. Predicting the next big trend is priceless.

While some domainers swear that .com is the only extension worth being bought, there are others, like me, who think it’s absolutely insane to dismiss all other TLD’s and only buy one flavor of domain name. The popularity of .TV and .Mobi and the ongoing success of ccTLD’s has risen and is playing a prominent part in today’s domain marketplace. Generic domains in any of these extensions are being recognized as a highly sought after commodity with no signs of slowing. Familiarize yourself with other TLD’s beside .com, .net and .org and evaluate your domain purchases on a global niche scale the next time you go to buy a domain.

Consider fractional domain ownership

Fractional domain ownership is simply a group of people that own a domain name and share in it’s profits, development and use. There is not one sole owner because it is owned by the entire group. Owning a portion of a high value domain is a great way for a newcomer to the domain industry to begin and understand the ins and outs of professional domaining and share in the profit growth associated with that certain domain. It also allows “regular” domainers to group funds together and own a very premier domain name without one person having to pay the entire purchase price. Look for this trend to boom in 2008.

Optimize your parked pages

Once you buy a domain name, it is up to you whether your domain will contain a fully-functional website that you can customize/adsense or whether you will “park” your domain and allow targeted content to automatically be placed and monetized per visitor. If you choose to park your domains, it’s imperative that you understand how domain parking works and how it can be optimized to bring better results. Sedo is a popular place for domain parking and allows users to see detailed stats and account information for each domain parked on the Sedo network. Revenue is shared with Sedo each time someone clicks on content on one of your parked pages and relies on consistent traffic to be a steady stream of income. Update your WHOIS information

The WHOIS database is sort of like a directory of purchased domain names that contains the owner’s contact information, purchase date and expiration of a certain domain. One use of this information is being able to contact a domain owner and inquire about purchasing the domain. Without the correct information in the WHOis database, a potential buyer may not be able to contact the current owner and allow an offer to be placed. Contact your domain registrars and make sure your WHOis information is current and correct. Most of the targeted traffic came through a software, which I used some time ago. This woke me up and I started to look my internet business from the angle of links. What the links really mean?

My answer was very simple: website link popularity means that the site has contacts, i.e. business contacts with other sites in the internet business.

I have marketed my internet business over 3 years using majorily long term strategies, like SEO by optimized articles, optimized blog posts, writing new pages to my site and participating forums.

Most of these actions have the same target: to bring more targeted traffic to my site, rather repeatedly. And even further: by link building to increase my site`s link popularity.

I underline this: my website link popularity is EXTREMELY important. It does not matter what do I think: search engine ranking, the amount of site visitors, residual traffic, targeted traffic or what.

So I wrote this article about my experiences, because I was so happy with the results.

1.The Useful, Original, Personal and Fresh Site Content.

A quality content is the best link popularity tool. Some affiliate marketers say that it works so slowly, but I do not agree. A good content works immediately. Okay, in case that your site has zero visitors, it doesn`t, but that is quite exceptional.

The power of quality content in link popularity comes from the fact that happy visitrs come again and recommend the site to many others.

2.Link Building By Website Directories.

You can do this manually or by a software. However I highly recommend that you use some link popularity tool, a software which does the submission.

These links work in the short- and long term: once done, they do the work for you.

3.Reciprocal Link Building.

There are lots of information that reciprocal links or link exchange doesn`t work effectively. I think this means majorily the search engine ranking, because reciprocal links bring huge traffic. I see it every day from my stats.

4.Link Popularity With The Article Directories.

Internet marketing is a numbers game, ie. We need lots of visitors to become successful. That is also the target of every link building campaign.

By writing optimized articles it is possible to increase website link popularity, especially if these articles are submitted to directories with an effective submission service, which will distribute them widely all over the Net.

5.Internet Marketing Forums And Bookmarking.

Forums bring targeted traffic, but the participation requires lots of regular posts. We can always ask the reader to bookmark our article or page, which will mean that later he will visit our page again.

I see these tactics as additional ways, because the volume of links will in all cases be low.

In the end of the day, the site content is the most effective way to increase website link popularity and build a solid traffic.
